What is the meaning that you give to things that happen to you along the way to achieving your goals and dreams? For many of us, when a bump or a hurdle appears in the road – we might think, ”Why is this happening to me?”
When you choose to change one single word in that statement, you can change the entire meaning. My friend Pat taught me instead of saying, “Why is this happening to me?” - you change it to “Why is this happening FOR me?”
It is possible that it is happening “FOR me” to teach me something. Maybe you need to master something on the way to achieving your goals and dreams. “For me” invites me to look for the lesson I need to learn about myself. Maybe you are learning that when life shows up in one of its challenging disguises you are more flexible than you realized, more resilient, more creative, or more tenacious.
When you choose to view the situation from the perspective of “FOR me”, you instantly change the perspective that you are a victim of your circumstances. The lens of victimization is changed to the lens of experience and suddenly the power seems to drain out of that bump in the road. You are back in a position of power again, being the one who has simply chosen the Intentional Meaning. Only you can choose the meaning to any experience that happens to you in life – the road to your goals and dreams.
As March begins, we have 4 more minutes of daylight each day. That MUST mean that the seeds of possibility that we have planted this year will easily begin to grow!
Have fun!
